One of its core services, Independent Living Skills provided to persons of all ages, with all types of disabilities, empower consumers by providing key life skills that allow for a higher quality of life. Whether learning how to use public transportation, getting tips on budgeting, safety and disaster preparedness awareness, voter registration, how to work with a Personal Assitant, and general consumer rights information, those who participate in these courses are role models for persons with disabilities who focus on their abilities in achieving and maintaining independence. Course are scheduled at the Center MONTHLY, held on the 4th Monday of each month, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Throughout the year, these skills are provided by staff on a one on one basis in both the Joliet and Morris offices, so contact the Center for details.

“We’re here to applaud all of the great work all the staff does in leading the County – and down in Springfield -- to do what is necessary and what it right for its disabled residents. In stressing the importance of equality, you let us know if something is not being done, and working to promote what is being done right. In Pam Heavens, we have a wonderful, committed and compassionate leader that shares knowledge in a positive way…this organization would not be what it is today without she and her very diligent staff, so congratulations on this celebration."
